Esperantists, calmly but surely, are adopting memeo as their translation for meme. In order to be consistent with Ido’s systematic identity, let’s see what we would adopt if we followed the reasoning behind our international language.
aritmo- (number) → aritmetiko (arithmetics)
dieto (diet) → dietetiko (dietetics)
energio (energy) → energetiko (energetics)
fono- (voice) → fonetiko (phonetics)
geno* (gene) → genetiko* (genetics)
If we go the other way around…
memetiko* (memetics) → memo* (meme)
Logic seems to change the e for an o, thus forming a word. That’s why we would be inconsistent if we were to use memeo instead of memo*. As for the i in energio, that’s because it comes from the Greek energeia.
